Dear Pre-Dental Hygiene Major: This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed below each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. One sample schedule is provided as a general guideline to help you build a schedule each term. Your courses must be selected with your advisor to satisfy all core curriculum and state, lab science, and multicultural requirements. Students are only accepted in the Dental Hygiene program each fall semester.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 9% growth in employment for dental hygienists between 2021 and 2031.

Dental Hygiene is an Associate of Applied Science degree program offered cooperatively by 新澳门六合彩 and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Registered dental hygienists work in a variety of professional settings. The public is most familiar with dental hygienists in the private dental office, where they perform numerous critical services designed to detect and prevent diseases of the mouth. These include oral prophylaxis, assessing the oral cavity for signs of disease, patient education, taking x-rays, applying fluoride, sealants, and administering local anesthesia. In this setting, registered dental hygienists play a vital role in protecting the oral health of the American public. Admission to the clinical program is not guaranteed. Fifteen candidates are admitted annually in the fall semester through a competitive admissions process.  The clinical program offered on the Wiregrass campus is 5 semesters in length.

To obtain state licensure, students must pass the Dental Hygiene National Board and the ADEX clinical exam following graduation. The dental hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

The cooperative dental hygiene program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation through October 2028.
